Mission
"The Renegades’ Pitch For Kids was founded to enhance the quality of life of young people and their families throughout the Hudson Valley by supporting community organizations whose programs make a positive change in youth, their families and the community."
The Renegades Pitch For Kids was created to give back to the community that has given us so much, specifically the children and families of the Hudson Valley. With annual fundraising events, memorabilia auctions, and in-stadium raffles, Pitch For Kids has raised well over $500,000. The events have provided businesses and residents of the Hudson Valley the chance to have fun and come together to help better their community.
With funds appropriately funneled through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County, Pitch For Kids has been able to provide grants to local non-profit organizations. Some of the organizations are Child Abuse Prevention Center, The Phoenix House Poughkeepsie, D.A.R.E., St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Dutchess & Orange County, plus many more.
Through the efforts of the entire Renegades and Pitch For Kids staff, along with the generous ongoing support of the businesses and residents of the Hudson Valley, Pitch For Kids will continue to grow and develop new ways to provide funds and help the children and families of the Hudson Valley. We need your help to make this year's events better than last. Please help by supporting us in one or more of these great events!
"Together We Can Make A Difference". If you can help in any of these areas, please call Rick Zolzer, Director of the Renegades Pitch for Kids at (845) 838-0094 ext. 251 or by e-mail at [email protected]
Our History
Pitch For Kids was the brainchild of the Renegades President, Skip Weisman, who in the fall of 1995 realized it was important for the team to become a more integral part of the community. The first event was a sports memorabilia auction, coincidentally called the "Pitch For Kids" Auction. The proceeds from that first event were donated to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters agencies in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange counties.
Soon Skip began investigating ways to develop a charitable arm for the Renegades organization. His research included many minor league baseball teams across the country and found virtually no programs that would serve as a model for what he wanted to develop. After attending a non-related meeting, he learned how simple and easy it would be to set up the Renegades own tax-deductible charitable fund through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County.
Renegades Pitch for Kids, through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County, was officially put in place in 1999. The Board set up a granting process to fund local charitable initiatives. The 2001 season was the first year that Pitch For Kids began to grant awards. Since that year, Pitch for Kids has donated well over $500,000 to area charities that focus on the strengthening children and families in the community.
