The 'Gades Shootout wouldn't be complete without some sort of wackiness. On 101.5 WPDH in Poughkeepsie Rick Zolzer has been releasing some of the games for the holes during his broadcast on the morning show leading up to the shootout. A few holes already released are the "Reverse Hole", “Hip Hip Jorge” and the “No Clubs Club”.
In “Hip Hip Jorge” there will be a baseball catcher in full gear waiting on the green. Each player will hit his/her ball at the catcher. If the catcher is successful on only one ball then the foursome will receive a birdie. On two catches it will be a hole in one. Getting to the third catch is where it really gets interesting because on hole nine they will start at the bottom of the hill hitting one. Four successful catches allows hole nine to begin halfway down the fairway also hitting one.
If you’re a fan of the 1993 rap group Kris Kross then “The Reverse hole” is for you. The hole is exactly as it suggest. You will play it in reverse. The tee will be by the green and the hole is made by the tee-box. Up hills now go down, wind direction flips and all aspects of the hole are completely different. Backwards attire not a must on this hole however won’t be discouraged.
In the “No Clubs Club” the players will use seven different sports skills to advance their ball down the fairway and towards the hole. By the end of the hole you’ll wish golf could be played this way all the time. Probably the most fun you’ll have on a golf course without clubs.
These are only three of the holes and you can listen to Zolzer in the mornings on WPDH at 8:35AM throughout the next couple weeks to hear about the rest. Remember, it doesn’t matter whether you have never picked up a golf club before because you have a shot at winning. There has never been a tournament like this and the fact that anyone can play to help raise money and help kids out while having tons of fun is an incredible scenario. Where else can you find an event like this around? The best way to get involved will be to contact Rick Zolzer at the Hudson Valley Renegades by calling 845-838-0094 ext. 231 at Dutchess Stadium or my emailing him at [email protected]. See you on the range!
