April Fools' Day is over and all the bad pranks and jokes are out of the way, so come see the professionals do comedy right. Our 'Gades Comedy All Stars event will be on Sunday, April 19th at Dutchess Golf at 5 pm and will have you rolling in the aisles. We have four local comedians again this year featuring Daniel McRitchie, Jerrold Benford, Tommy Gooch, and Jeff Norris. Tickets are only $25 or tables of ten are available for purchase for $250.
This year's April Fools' Day, major companies, like Google and Disney, featured some interesting pranks to say the least. We promise our comedians are much more witty and entertaining. Google decided to do things backwards for the day. If you happened to go to .google, you could type backwards in the Google search bar. At least the results still listed in order of most importance. As if that was not enough, Google Maps turned into a game of PacMan. You could find Pinky, Blinky, and Inky wandering the streets of your neighborhood. Honda introduced the “HR-V Selfie Edition.” The new car features ten cameras built in across the interior and exterior to allow drivers to snap self-portraits in the car. No photographing and driving, please. Disney announced the redesign of “Cinderella's Castle” into “Elsa's Ice Palace.” We couldn't let this one go. Selfie Shoes made their debut on April Fools' this year, too, from Miz Mooz shoe store. Much like the selfie stick, you place your phone in your shoe, kick that leg up in the air, and wait for the timer to snap your selfie. Here at Hudson Valley Renegades, we can promise much more entertainment than these sad pranks. Make sure you reserve your spot now at our upcoming 'Gades Comedy All Stars event on April 19th. Skull: Well Gator, we’re back for another exciting weekend of baseball and entertainment! How are you feeling right now? Gator: Yeah, I’m a bit wet right now. And quite cold. S: Hmm I wonder why, could it have anything to do with a challenge with buckets and ice? You know the challenge that has swamped all of social media for a great cause. G: Yeah it’s for a great cause but maybe we should do one for hypothermia awareness too. Everyone has been doing it so it was a matter of time until I got challenged. S: Yeah I got the challenge from my own brother of all people. It wasn’t as bad as it seems. Most of the Renegades organization did it at some point. Speaking of challenges, this upcoming weekend series against the Lowell Spinners will be a challenge, for the Spinners. The Renegades just picked up their 40th victory, and are looking to finish the season strong with the best record in the New York-Penn League. G: Finishing the season strong starts with great team play and the offense needs to finish the season hitting hot. A few guys are sparking this team right now. Alec Sole and Bralin Jackson have been on fire these past weeks. S: Plus, their pitching staff is keeping the Renegades contending in every game they play. Pitchers like Hunter Wood and Nolan Gannon have caught fire quickly. Performances that could really boost the team as they head into the playoffs. G: As it stands right now, the Gades would head into the playoffs with home field advantage seeing they have the best record in the New York Penn. The team they would face is still up for grabs as Brooklyn and Connecticut are in a tight race for that wild card spot. S: Either team we face will be a tough opponent. This weekend series against the Spinners features great events such as our Dueling Piano night, which will feature a wide variety of live music to be featured throughout the game. Speaking of great performances, I hear fans might be in for a special treat this weekend, as a rumored performance from Shrek may happen. Certainly would be a great performance especially since Shrek never leaves his swamp. G: The night after is We Bought a Zoolander night which is exciting because there may be sightings of llamas and goats. Our own personal petting zoo with a twist. Can’t wait to see what kind of twist it will be. S: Could include some Lions, Tigers, and Bears!(oh my) The whole weekend will be filled with great events, great animals, and lots of great baseball. Will be fitting since for a lot of fun team members, it will be their last weekend working at the Dutch. G: I’ll be gone after this series as well. It’s been a great season and I’ve met some great people. This summer has been a terrific experience and it’s been a blast. The fun brigade has been just as fun as it sounds. S: I know. I’m leaving next week and as much as I’m excited to go back to college, the memories and friends I’ve made here cannot be replaced. We really began a team and worked together so well, that every activity of every game just felt like clockwork. But we had so much fun doing it. Talk about a great learning experience. G: Well Matty it’s been fun. It’s pretty crazy that this is our last blog together. We got to show these people the ins and outs of what we do and maybe we encouraged some new potential fun team members. It will be tough to replace this crew though. S: No doubt Cory. But I hope that whomever does replace us has as much fun as we did, and learns as much we did in such a small amount of time during the summer. I’ll definitely come back soon to watch the whole team go. So from myself and Gator, have a great rest of your summer, and go Gades! Skull as one of the five Jokers, Gator as Lizard on Villain night for Renegades Comic Con weekend. Skull: Hello ‘Gades fans, welcome to the Skull and Gator Blog part 4, we got a lot of stuff planned this week, with lots of performances and entertaining activities coming up soon! What are you looking forward to the most Darth Gator?
Gator: Well, if you couldn’t tell by that “creative” nickname, I’m looking forward to Star Wars day on Sunday. You definitely won’t have to “force” me to participate in that. It’s going to be a blast. S: Certainly. Have a fun time we will. Fans could walk out of here with prizes such as their own Ewok, or even the Millenium Falcon! G: Why are you lying to the people? Do you really think Han Solo would just give away his ship? He has to go defeat the Empire with Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker. S: Don’t forget about Princess Leia! All Star Wars fans will not want to miss out on this intergalactic adventure. I have a good feeling about this. G: Well, if people prefer comic books over Star Wars like you do, Skull, we have two comic book nights as well. One night even dedicated to the most important asset of a comic, the villain. I’m partial to General Zod from Superman; who’s your favorite villain, Skull? S: You can’t go wrong with The Joker. Talk about a villain with both a good brain and a sinister laugh that just loves to terrorize all of Gotham. But there are so many others to choose from, I am interested to see what villains the fans choose to dress up as. G: Skull, a note for you: gluing a magnet to your head does not qualify as dressing up as Magneto. S: And bringing all 20 of your cats with you to the ballpark does not qualify you as Catwoman, Gator. Even if we are playing the Tri-City Valley Cats. G: With the Valley-Cats coming in, it’s going to be a battle. This is a matchup of the two best teams in the New York-Penn. This is going to be a hard fought few games that are sure to end in fireworks (Saturday!). S: Well regardless of how well they do, the games will actually end in fireworks. There are only a few fireworks games left so the fans should take advantage of them before the summer ends. But the fireworks could extend into the fall if the Renegades storm into the playoffs! G: The fireworks are always a great spectacle. Every Friday and Saturday night games are fireworks nights at the Dutch. It’s like a show after the show. Two shows for the price of one! Hopefully we can see some in game fireworks too. S: Well with the way we’ve been playing recently that almost sounds like a guarantee at this point. Sometimes it gets hard to keep track of how many runs the Renegades are driving in per game. Giving the other team’s pitching staff constant nightmares. The Dutch has not been an easy place to walk away with a win in for opposing teams. G: The ‘Gades seem to be winning everywhere. They have a ten game division lead on Brooklyn and are close to clinching a playoff spot. They are 20-3 at home and 37-15 overall. That’s a winning percentage of .712. This team is en fuego. S: More like feuer. For those of you who didn’t know, that is German for fire. And the Renegades will be having their own night of German festivities this Friday, aptly titled Augtoberfest. Its just like Oktoberfest, only in August. So expect lots of lederhosen, pretzels, and beer. It should be a fun night for all German and non Germans alike. G: I, for one, love German food so you will see me pigging out (or in German, Schwein-ing). I may even put on a pair of lederhosen. It’s going to be a fun day. Those Germans know how to have a fun time so we’ll be modeling this night off of their great tradition. S: Definitely. With that and all the comic con events going on this weekend, fans will not be disappointed whatsoever with the upcoming homestand. We will certainly be kept busy the whole weekend but it’ll definitely be worth it in order to keep the fans entertained. G: We’ve had tons of practice throughout the season so we’re ready for whatever is thrown at us. This brigade can handle anything. S: Certainly, and that wouldn’t be possible without some of our team leaders like Casey and Sean. Keeping us on track while making sure we always have fun out on the field. Certainly have us fully prepared to finish off the rest of the season strong! Skull: Well another exciting week has passed by for the Fun Team, as we got to participate in yet another exciting home series as the Renegades clobbered the Vermont Lake Monsters. Quite the series wouldn’t you say Gator?
Gator: Well I certainly would not call that moneyball. It just might be the fact that we don’t ever lose at the Dutch. Twenty wins and three losses now? Talk about home field advantage. S: Certainly. We have the best fans in the league supporting the team, and that really boosts the players’ morale and they just put on a show both offensively and defensively. Fans walk in and out of Dutchess Stadium with a big smile on their face after every game. But that is not just because of the way the team is playing, the Fun Team had a lot of exciting events planned for the fans this week. G: Not a K and Team Meat and Greet went very well, I’d have to say. I saw some great sculptures out of the ground chuck that blew me away. A full replica of the field made all in beef was a sight to see. S: Plus the meat sculpture created to resemble our Mascot Rascal! I thought that was very well done. I know I couldn’t make the masterpieces they were creating in so little time with such a large amount of meat. The Not a K event was fun to watch, especially when the person who finished last captured the prize. We got a great amount of participants to take the walk. G: Well it was a non-race, much more fun than the sweat inducing 5K. The fans got into the non-race too. It felt like a horse race but, you know, a lot slower. We’ve been mixing up our between inning games as well. More cornhole is okay with me. That game is a blast. S: I know. We’ve had some good contestants this week. We also had some very physically fit contestants for our Hudson Valley’s greatest athlete competition. An event that included jumping jacks, sit ups, push-ups, running through hoops, and diving under swimming noodles. Our toughest in between innings competition for the contestants this year. But boy was it fun to watch. G: We have some physically fit fans and they showed it well. Let’s get physical night was great, especially when it reminded us of those ridiculous infomercials that were “quick workouts”. S: Yeah remember when the Shake weight was popular? Those things were just bizarre. And speaking of bizarre, we got to watch a classic workout video created by none other than the legendary Richard Simmons. He was certainly a very fit and energetic guy. G: Maybe we should recreate that video with the Fun Team-ers and some of the ‘Gades players. Maybe that will go viral and it would be a great way to work out with the team. I’m sure the players are in much better shape than we are. They’d probably just embarrass us. S: Well we already did Yoga on the field with a few of the players, and that was embarrassing enough. A full workout with them would just be unfair. G: As was that fantastic picture of me on the website. Yoga is a lot more difficult than it looks. Also more painful if you’re not flexible, like me. Anyway, it was a relaxing way to end the night and a new experience for me. S: Certainly. The fans got their own new experience on Team Meat and Greet night as they got to meet and get signatures from all the players on the Renegades. The line for just Hunter Lockwood almost extended into the infield. Fans can’t get enough of him! G: I had to cut the line off for Casey Gillaspie because his was way too long as well. At least these players know the fans care about them a whole lot. It’s a good balance because man these guys put on a show. S: Every time. The fact that the fans are allowed so much interaction time with the players makes them much more invested in the team and how they’re performing on a daily basis. G: I’m not sure if you’ve seen Grant Kay’s stat line at home so far but he’s hitting .765 with nine RBI’s. Just wow. This might be his favorite park ever. S: I’m sure Grant Kay will hope that every team he plays on from now on will have a stadium just like Dutchess. He hits it to every part of the ballpark and can produce a single, double, triple, or home run at any given point. Imagine the Renegades record if he was on the team when the season started. This guy is a stud. G: It’s pretty tough to imagine anything better than what we have now. We have the best record in the NY-Penn and the team gets better and better each day. The playoffs should be fun. S: Definitely. And we have some awesome theme nights planned for the weeks ahead such as Couples vs. Singles Nights and Comic Con Weekend. So the fans should really make an effort to come out to Dutchess Stadium as soon as possible. G: I am so going to dress up as Wolverine. You do not want to miss that. S: I call Aquaman! You certainly wouldn’t wanna miss that. Gator: Vin Skull-y! It feels like it’s been about a week since I’ve talked to you.
Skull: I know Gator! Been so busy with all the different fun team activities we’ve had to cover this week. G: So are you dry yet? We got a bit wet last night and it wasn’t because some of the derby participants were raining bombs. S: Nope. Still drying off from that. Clearly that streak of homers those guys were on angered the baseball gods so they used all their terrifying powers to bring it to an end. G: To clarify for the folks that weren’t at the 18th Annual Renegades and Pitch for Kids Home Run Derby, it rained. Hard. I would say almost like a hurricane. It was a brutal storm with lightning all around. S: It wasn’t just your typical pretty lightning, it was terrifying, all run for your life lightning. That drive home was not pleasant, but hey, at least we had pizza. G: Yeah man, Leo’s hooked us up. Something warm in that cold rain. But enough about the rain, some of those home runs were absolute moonshots. S: I know. I mean the home run “fence” was at the warning track, but some of those guys were knocking the ball over the river and through the woods. I saw a solid 3 home runs that hit the scoreboard. Those guys clearly had their Wheaties before showing up to the ballpark. G: Running around the outfield shagging balls was made a lot easier when some of these guys were up… Until we had to chase the balls into the woods. But hey, at least we got some cracks at hitting homers. S: Oh yeah, we had some great Fun Team hitters who were launching those balls deep, and then there was me, who just barely got one ball out of the infield. I guess I was having an off day at the plate. But hey, even the best hitters have an off day from time to time. G: Matt, the girls were out hitting you… S: Hey they were getting middle of the plate lobs, I had to chase for all of mine. Plus I was physically drained from all that work in the outfield. G: Yeah, yeah, excuses, excuses. It’s okay Skull, we all can’t rip balls like Grant Kay. Did you see him on Tuesday against Staten Island? Have a day, Mr. Kay. S: He clearly loves playing at Dutchess Stadium, because I’m pretty sure he has only gotten out once at the stadium, that guy can hit any pitch to any part of the ballpark. But the team in general has just busted out as an offensive powerhouse. Makes our job a lot easier. G: I will never get sick of that Naughty by Nature tune. We can’t ask the boys to play any better or any harder than they have been. This season has been one of a kind to say the least. The team is unstoppable at the Dutch. S: No doubt. They have the best record of any team in the NY Penn League, and they show no signs of slowing down. Certainly leave the fans wanting more after every game they see. G: Do you know what people want more of? Other people getting egged in the face, after losing in trivia. Egg Roulette is absolutely hysterical. S: I know, especially when Zolz is egging them. It’s basically the same concept as pie wars, except a wrong answer will get you a raw egg to the face. Not as hard to clean up, but just as funny to watch. G: Those contestants are brave souls for taking eggs and pies and other food items to the face. But hey, the fans love it and so do we. The best part is how competitive the contestants get. When they get into it, the crowd gets into it. S: Its great. Especially when the contestants are friends or related, they’re fighting for some major bragging rights. These games aren’t always easy, so some of these contestants have to really fight for that victory. Can it be embarrassing for them? Of course. But they certainly don’t mind facing that embarrassment in order to entertain the fans. G: And that is why we have the best fans in the New York-Penn. Prove us right guys! Come out to the Dutch this Sunday as the Gades take on the Vermont Lake Monsters. We’ll see you there and next week on this blog. Trying something new here. Every week we will have "Gade Talk with Skull & Gator," two Renegades' Fun Team interns that will give you an inside look at what it is like to be on the Fun Team. They will recap the past weeks experiences by going back and forth on a Google Doc which will then be uploaded here. Let the fun begin! Cory Greenspan: Hello all, Matt and I are interns with the Hudson Valley Renegades on the Fun Brigade. We are in charge of putting on the fan-centered games between innings and keeping the crowd involved. So we’re going to share our experiences with you all.
Matt McNamara: What’s better than free food, free baseball, and entertaining thousands of fans every night? The answer is nothing. CG: Skull, you are absolutely correct. We should probably mention how Zolz gave us all nicknames. MM: Thanks Gator. Well I came in late to the process, so I never really got a cool nickname. Sean called me “Marist Matt”...because I went to Marist. But then one of the days I was sitting in a production meeting in the trailer, and Zolz just randomly blurts out “How does that sound to you Skull?” I had no idea he was referring to me. I then stupidly asked him, “Why did you call me Skull?” He then quickly replied, “Because you have a gigantic head” and that’s where it all began. CG: Hey, well at least you’re not Harry Styles. I mean they call me Gator because I go to the University of Florida but you know, Gator sounds cool. MM: Definitely. All of our nicknames are pretty cool. Now of all the games we have put on for the fans this year, what’s your favorite? CG: I am all about Two-Headed Tiger. This is the game where we put two contestants in a 7XL t-shirt and have each one of them put one hand on a golf club where they have to collectively chip a wiffle golf ball into a bucket. It’s pretty amusing to me. MM: My favorite has to be skee ball. It’s just like the arcade version, roll a myriad of balls up a ramp and try and win points by getting it into one of the baskets. Only for us we had the mascots “racing” against each other in a 1st base vs. 3rd base matchup. It always got super competitive and we always tried our hardest to get the 3rd base side pumped for our mascot and contestant. CG: Yeah, that one is a fun one to set up. We have to rush all of that on the field in the minimal amount of time possible. It isn’t as bad because it’s a pre-fireworks game so we have a little more time than usual. Some of those between inning games however, can get rough. Setting up, running the game, and cleaning up all have to be done in about ninety seconds. Talk about mayhem. MM: Certainly. I remember having literally a minute to throw together four whip cream pies to use for pie wars (a quiz game where a wrong answer will earn you a pie to the face), the pit was a mess, and my hands were covered in whipped cream and sweat. But hey, at least the game worked! CG: Clean up isn’t always fun but what comes after is always fun and leaves me with no voice, getting rowdy in the bleachers. Best part of our job, bar none. MM: Yeah I remember one of the first games; the game went into 15 innings. At first we were all in shock that a game could go on that long, but once we all got together in the bleachers and yelled at the top of our lungs, getting the fans that somehow stuck around for that long pumped, it felt great. And they did end up winning on a wild pitch! So clearly our rowdiness was effective. CG: It’s fun incorporating chants that you would necessarily associate with baseball such as Seven Nation Army, Oh When the Saints (or ‘Gades for our purposes), or even the “I Believe” soccer chant. It’s a bunch of fun when the whole brigade gets wild together. Some of us whip out capes and raccoon masks and try to get the crowd going with a little Rock and Roll Part 2. It brings a real sense of unity to what we do. MM: Yeah even if we are split during the games in our pits, we do a lot of our major activities together, such as the Fun Brigade meetings, selling tennis balls, getting the crowd pumped. Each of us contributes something fresh and helpful to this team to make it operate the way it does. CG: Each person has that one area where they really excel and we can feed off of that. Styles is good with tennis balls, Lips is the ring toss king, and, you, the cardboard fort emperor. MM: Let’s not forget who taught Styles to be a master salesman, Gator all you need is some tennis balls and a red bull and those tennis balls would sell like hotcakes. A future Bob Hand over here. But selling those tennis balls certainly isn’t an easy task, neither was picking all of them up after the game. CG: Picking them up is the price we pay for watching the great display of fireworks. When we sell a bunch of balls we are rewarded with more to clean up huh? MM: Plus bagging them all the next day. We can’t have all fun and no work. Though the work itself is just as fun. We gotta stay focused and attentive at all times, but our leaders are very helpful and always keep us on our toes throughout the game. But don’t think that we don’t get our fair share of teasing in towards all of them, because trust me, we do. CG: Yeah, we all do a good job and make what can be really hectic look like a smooth operation. MM: Even though the baseball season is half way over, I’ve already made a ton of great memories with a great team. Summer and baseball go together so well and I always get a rush of energy every time I arrive at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegade's Vice President, Rick Zolzer, has put on yet another successful golf tournament and once again proved that you can not find a better time on the green in the Hudson Valley. Last Wednesday, June 4th at Casperkill Golf Course, over a hundred golfers came out to the course to take part in the funnest and wackiest round of golf they have ever played. The 28 foursome groups that signed up for the 'Gades Open this year took part in an 18 hole tournament with a few renegade curve balls thrown their way. Certain holes were set up with a different fun twist on the game of golf to act as an obstacle that you and your foursome would have to get through as a team. For instance, hole 2 at The 'Gades Open hosted a game called “Bass-Akwards Golf” (so cleverly named by the humorous Zolz), which made the players play the entire whole backwards. Players were instructed to drive their carts up to the green of the hole and hit the ball back down towards the women's designated tee-off area. The hole ended when players each chipped their final shot into a circled area acting as the “hole”. Just when players thought that golf couldn't get any harder, they also eventually came across other games like “Relay Golf” at hole 5 and “Break The Ice' at hole 12. With all these obstacles set up, giving Casperkill more of a giant-mini golf course type feel, it might seem like player's scores would be awfully high. Don't worry though, Zolz has something for that too; the ever popular “Mistake Tape”, which magically puts the ball in the hole without giving you a stroke. Offered to players at check-in before tee-time, the mistake tape is a huge advantage to players who might need some strokes taken off their score during the course of the tournament. “Purchasing mistake tape is pretty much legal cheating”, said Rick Zolzer before the start of the 'Gades Open. Also offered during check-in were the raffle tickets and the free drink vouchers. The players used the drink voucher at the corresponding locations on the course, just in case they either wanted to cool down on the hot June afternoon, or drink away their sorrows of the constant hooks into the sand pit. The raffle tickets came in handy at the end of the day during the players complimentary lobster and steak dinner. In the 50/50 raffle one lucky winner won all of the ticket profit and went home with over $500 in cash, as the rest of the profit from mistake tape and the giant raffle sales went to the Pitch For Kids foundation. In the giant raffle, participants won anything from a quesadilla maker to a flat screen television, although the bottles of moonshine seemed to be the most sought after item for some of the more frustrated golfers of the day. The real fun and belly busting laughter took place before the raffles during the auction. With Zolz doing his best fast speaking auctioneer impression, the golfers did their best to keep up and place bids on pricy sports memorabilia items. The pieces ranged from anything from a signed photo of Michael Jordan in a Wizards uniform, to a signed photo of Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden in the Mets dugout. However the one item that took the bidding the highest all the way up towards $900 was the signed photo of Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte taking Mariano Rivera out of his last game. The bidding went on for so long that Zolz generously decided to give out a copy of the photo to each of the final two bidders. Before the event was over Zolzer offered a special thanks to his crew of interns who got through their first full event with success and also to everyone involved who came out to his event and made it so much fun. It was safe to say that everyone left Casperkill with a big smile on their face even if they did spend the whole day in the rough or the weeds.
Our ‘Gades Open is almost here! Anyone who has swung a golf club, or at least attempted to, knows how difficult of a sport golf can be. It requires perfect and consistent technique. Here are a few guys who have mastered the technique and make it seem all too easy. This is a list of the top five ranked pro golfers of today according to the Official World Golf Ranking: ![]() #5: Matt Kuchar- This 35 year-old Georgia Tech graduate has found himself steadily ascending through the golfer rankings the past few years to earn a spot among the top five in the world. Matt has moved up five places in the rankings in the past three years as he was ranked number ten in the world in 2011. Before he was a pro, Kuchar won the U.S. Amateur Open in 1997 and was the U.S. top collegiate golfer in 1998 receiving the Fred Haskins Award. He earned his first PGA Tour win in 2002 at the Honda Classic. In 2010, Matt enjoyed one of his best years as he finished first in scoring average (69.61), finished first in all-around ranking, first in total money winning him the Arnold Palmer Award and had the most top 10 finishes. More recently, Kuchar had two big wins in 2013; one at the WGC Accenture-Match Play Championship and the other at The Memorial Tournament. Both victories added to his 8 top 10 finishes in 2013. ![]() #4: Bubba Watson- Bubba is known for his ability to make amazing shots, his colossal drives, his hot pink colored driver and his electric personality. This self-taught golfer only had one lesson as a child from his father and has not had any instruction or lessons since. After leading his Georgia Bulldogs to a SEC title in 2000 as a sophomore, Bubba decided to turn pro in 2001and went on to lead the PGA Tour in driving distance for several consecutive years. Since 2010, Watson has taken first in 6 PGA Tour events and has 23 top 10 finishes. His two Masters Championships in the last three years have cemented him as one of the game’s greats. From his humble beginnings to becoming a PGA champion, Bubba is well aware of what it takes to be successful at the highest level and he takes great pride in his performance on the course. ![]() #3: Henrik Stenson- Probably the best golfing talent ever to come from Sweden, Henrik has the highest ranking ever achieved by a Swede in the Official World Golf Ranking since he was placed at number 3 in 2013. Stenson turned pro in 1998 and just two years later in 2000 he won the Challenge Tour Order of Merit at the finals in Cuba and his first European Tour win was in 2001 at the Benson & Hedges Tournament. Over the next decade, he earned six more wins on tour including the Accenture World Match Play and the Players Championship at Sawgrass which was an absolutely dominating performance. He also had top 10 finishes in the US Open and the PGA Championship which add to his 40 plus top 10 finishes to date. His win at the South African Open in 2012 was the start of a stellar 2013 campaign where he had three major victories; the Deutsche Bank Championship, and Tour Championship on the PGA Tour and DP World Championship on the European Tour. He became the first golfer in history to win the FedEx Cup and the Race To Dubai in the same season. It is safe to say that if Henrik continues to have such success on American Soil, he will remain as a force to be reckoned with. ![]() #2: Adam Scott- With his thick facial scruff, curly head of hair and an athletic build, this Aussie appears to be more ready to hit the waves on his surf board than he is for a day on the green. However, Adam Scott is well on his way to one day reaching number one the ranking list. He has won golf tournaments in eight different countries and won the Players Championship at just 23 years-old. Although he has been impressive so far in his young career, critics say that the only thing that eludes the golfer from down under is a Masters title. However, since joining the PGA Tour, Adam has achieved 10 first place finishes as well as finishing in the top 10 an outstanding 62 times. With so much of his career still to come, there is no reason he shouldn’t attain that Masters trophy he’s been waiting for and there is no telling how high his career numbers will get. ![]() #1: Tiger Woods- What can be said about this next golfer in a short paragraph that would give him justice? If you haven’t heard of him, my guess is that you have been living under a rock for the past 20 years. Tiger Woods is known by the sports world as the best golfer to ever play the game. His list of accolades and achievements is longer than a “Happy Gilmore” drive off the tee. Ever since he could walk, Tiger has been swinging a golf club and has proved to be the games ultimate prodigy. At the ripe age of 21, Tiger became the youngest Masters champion in history and the first golfer since 1976 to win the first major he ever played in. This 1997 Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year hasn’t let up since the start, as his 79 career PGA tour wins are only three behind Sam Snead’s 82 for most all-time. Tiger is also only 4 Major victories away from Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18. Now at age 39, Tiger still has plenty of years ahead of him and would not surprise anyone if he past both milestones in the next few years. It might be some time before any golfer knocks Woods off the top of the Official World Golf Ranking list. These five talented golfers have all earned their spot on the Official World Golf Ranking as their skills enabled them to ascend straight to the top five on the list. If you think that you have got what it takes to be the best golfer in the Hudson Valley, come out to our ’Gades Open on June 4th, at the Casperkill Golf Course for a fun and exciting round of golf! To register your foursome, call the Renegades Pitch For Kids office at 845-838-0096, or e-mail Zolz at [email protected].
